What is the difference between retail and consumable products?

Zenoti tracks two stock types for products:

  • Retail products — Products sold directly to guests (for example, shampoo, skincare products). Retail stock decreases when a guest purchases the product at the point of sale.

  • Consumable products — Products used internally during service delivery (for example, hair color, massage oil). Consumable stock decreases when a service provider checks out the product for use during an appointment.

A product can be marked as both retail and consumable. In this case, Zenoti tracks separate stock quantities for each type, and you can convert stock between the two types using the product conversion feature.
