Troubleshoot Cash Drawer Issues in Zenoti POS
This article explains how to troubleshoot common cash drawer issues, understand printer dependencies, and manually open the cash drawer using Zenoti POS.
Overview
The cash drawer in Zenoti POS operates through the receipt printer. Most issues with the cash drawer are related to the printer connection or configuration rather than the drawer itself. Understanding this dependency is key to resolving most problems quickly.
Common Issues and Solutions
Drawer does not open automatically
If the drawer requires a physical key to open, or does not open after a receipt is printed, the issue is likely with the connection or receipt printer settings. Ensure the drawer's cable is connected to the receipt printer's cash drawer port (RJ-11/RJ-12) and not directly to the computer or a USB trigger device.
Drawer does not respond to the Pop Drawer button
The Pop Drawer feature in Zenoti works only if the drawer is physically unlocked. Verify the drawer is unlocked using its key before attempting to use this feature.
Drawer does not open during register operations or receipt printing
Confirm the receipt printer is recognized and functioning.
Check for error messages or indicator lights on the printer and address them.
Restart the computer and printer to resolve minor connectivity issues.
Negative or unexpected cash amounts in the register
This typically occurs when cash is collected before the opening amount is recorded. To fix this, save the correct opening till amount with appropriate notes.
Troubleshoot a Non-Responsive Drawer
Follow these steps if the cash drawer does not open:
Check for error messages on Zenoti or the receipt printer screen and resolve any that appear.
Run a printer self-test to confirm it is operational. Reinstall or update printer drivers if necessary. Power cycle the printer by turning it off for five seconds and restarting.
Ensure the cash drawer's cable is securely connected to the correct port on the printer.
Restart the receipt printer, cash drawer, and connected computer.
Print a receipt or simulate an invoice closure to trigger the kick signal that opens the drawer.
Note: If the drawer still does not open after completing all steps above, inspect the drawer for debris or mechanical damage that may be preventing it from opening.
