Configure tips on terminals

Tipping is a common practice in the service industry. Customers often reward service providers for their good work by giving them a tip or gratuity. In some countries, such as the US, it is customary for the front desk to ask guests for a tip amount during checkout, while other countries prefer to leave it up to the guests to decide whether or not to leave a tip. This feature provides guests more flexibility by allowing them to choose and pay their own tips directly from the terminal. Additionally, it lets centers display predefined tip amounts for guests to select from, enhancing convenience for both guests and service providers.

Set up flexible tip amounts on terminals using smart tipping

When the invoice amount is too small or too high, it is hard to know how much to tip. You can help your guests make up their minds by using Smart Tipping, which gives you the best of both suggested tips by value and by the percentage of the invoice value. Here you can set up a threshold value. If the invoice value is OVER the threshold value, it calculates the suggested tips as a percentage of the invoice value. If the invoice value is lower than the threshold value, it displays the absolute values.

Important

This is available only on Stripe.

To assist guests in deciding how much to tip when the invoice amount is either too small or too high, the Smart Tipping feature offers the best of both suggested tips based on value and percentage of the invoice value. A threshold value can be set to determine the tipping calculation method. If the invoice value exceeds the threshold, the suggested tips will be calculated as a percentage of the invoice value. However, if the invoice value is below the threshold, the absolute values as displayed as the suggested tips. This approach aims to provide clarity and guidance to guests when determining their tipping amounts in different invoice scenarios.

Consider this example where the threshold value is set to $100.
