Set up and place Lab orders with Fullscript

Overview

Lab Orders lets providers order bloodwork and diagnostic testing for patients directly from Zenoti, through Zenoti’s partner Fullscript, without sending patients to an outside portal or managing orders outside the system. Setup has three parts — enabling the feature, granting role permissions, and connecting a Fullscript account — after which providers can place and track orders directly from a guest’s Medical Record.

This integration is available to practices in the United States only. New York and New Jersey are not yet supported, due to state-specific regulations.

Step 1: Enable Lab Orders

Connect with your Zenoti representative to enable the Lab integration feature.

Step 2: Grant role permissions

Owner and service provider roles have View and Place permissions for Lab Orders enabled by default. Use the steps below to grant access to any other role, such as Front Desk.

  1. At the organization level, navigate to Configurations > Security > Security Roles.

  2. Select the role you want to update.

  3. Open the selected role's Permissions tab.

  4. Expand the Medical Hub section and select the required permission.

    • View (see existing lab orders and results)

    • Place (place new lab orders).

  5. Click Save.

Only grant this permission to roles that need it.

Step 3: Connect your account to Fullscript

Every practice needs a connected Fullscript account before placing lab orders.

  1. Access the Appointment Book and click More.

  2. Select Connect to Fullscript. You can also start this from a guest profile’s Medical Record tab.

  3. If you already have a Fullscript account, log in with your existing credentials.

  4. If you’re new to Fullscript, sign up with your license number, NPI information, and practice address, and agree to Fullscript’s terms of use. Fullscript assigns new accounts a dedicated account manager to help you get started.

Important

Only the first person to connect should sign up for a new Fullscript account — that person becomes the account owner for your practice. Every teammate after that is automatically routed through Fullscript’s invite flow: they select their role (for example, nurse practitioner or nutritionist), receive an email invite, and sign up from that link. This keeps every order under one shared Fullscript account instead of splitting orders across separate accounts.

You only need to connect once. After that, every lab order placed in Zenoti flows through to Fullscript automatically.

Step 4: Place a lab order and complete checkout

The primary way to place a lab order is from the patient’s guest profile.

  1. Open the patient’s guest profile and go to the Medical Record tab.

  2. Select the option to place a lab order.

Lab orders placed through the Treatment Hub link automatically link to that specific service in the patient’s history. Orders placed from the Medical Record or Appointment Book stand on their own.

You can also place an order directly from the Appointment Book: click Place Lab Order and enter the patient’s details. Zenoti passes those details to Fullscript, which matches the patient to an existing profile or creates a new one.

Once the patient’s profile is confirmed in Fullscript:

  1. Choose a lab vendor and add the tests you need. Save a frequently used combination of tests as a Custom Panel to add the whole set in one click on future orders.

  2. At checkout, choose how the patient pays:

    • Send the order to the patient by email; they pay from their phone.

    • Collect payment yourself using the patient’s card.

    • Charge the cost to a card saved on your practice’s Fullscript account (I Will Pay). This is a provider or center card, not a Zenoti point-of-sale charge — if you still want to collect that cost from the patient, do so separately (for example, with a dummy Zenoti appointment).

Because this integration currently supports the United States only, excluding New York and New Jersey, the billing address entered at checkout must fall outside those two states.

Lab Orders works on the web application and the Zenoti mobile app (iPad and Android). It is not yet available on the mobile browser version.

Step 5: View and track lab orders

Open the patient’s guest profile and go to Medical Record to see every lab order placed for that patient and its current status.

Orders move through three statuses automatically as Fullscript processes them — no action is needed in Zenoti:

  • Drafted: sent to the patient, payment not yet complete.

  • In Progress: payment complete; the sample is in transit to, or already at, the lab.

  • Results Ready: the report is available to view.

Opening an order also shows who placed it and which Fullscript account it was placed under, giving you a clear audit trail. If a patient has multiple lab orders over time, they all appear together for a complete lab history.

There is currently no notification when results come back — check the guest profile to see if a report has arrived.
