Before you begin

When you are refunding an online credit card payment, you must be aware of the following:

  • You can choose to refund an online card payment through cash, prepaid card, or custom payment

  • You can refund any type of gift card as long as the gift card has not already been partially redeemed.
    For example: A guest has a gift card for $50, but used $10 of this gift card to redeem a service or a product. The guest now asks for a refund of the balance amount - you cannot refund $40.

  • You cannot refund an amount exceeding the amount paid by the guest using the credit card

To refund an online credit card payment of an open invoice

1.  Open the invoice, if you have not already done so.

2. With the invoice open in the Point of Sale (POS) window, click the Refund icon against the added payment in the Collect Payment section. 

The Transactional Details window opens and shows the following options:

  • First refund from the transaction amount, later from tips.

  • First refund from tips, later from the transaction amount.

3. Select the option as per your requirement.

You can enter either the complete or partial amount. The amount you enter here is refunded to the credit card.

4. Enter the amount to refund and click Refund.

A message appears stating that the refund transaction was completed successfully.

5. Click OK.
