To make an employee profile active you need to enter a Start date for the employee from Employee > Employee > (Name of the employee) > General tab > Start date. You must also ensure that you do not enter an end date for the employee (also under General tab). 

Once employee profiles are active, they show up on the Employee Schedule page so that you can set up their schedules. You especially need to set up schedules for employees with the Therapist or Service Provider role so that they appear on the Appointment Book, Webstore, and the Employee and Manager mobile apps so that guests can make booking under their name.
